Home Spa
Nothing can nurture you like a heavenly cocoon than your home space. This is why your home should embrace you with a familiar scent or a relieving hug once you enter your space.
I totally adore massages as they are very soothing to my jangled nerves, but going back to the pollution of the street and the stress from a late bus just doesn’t cut it for me anymore. I find better comfort decompressing in my home space. I saved for a year and finally bought myself a spa massage chair that does the job every time . Plus, it has no time limit and I can stay massaged for hours if I choose!
Got no dedication to save up for a techy but hefty wellness gadget? No problem, as yoga does not take a lot of bucks and is one of the best things you can do for yourself. The healing comes from within, yoga has been proven to balance our hormones, move lymph to power our immunity and it has an immediate effect to our nervous system to wind us down.
And more than making your space a sanctuary, you can also convert it to a temple for beauty and relaxation. You don’t need a big space too, I started the home spa habit 9 years ago in my 300 square feet studio apartment. Just make sure you’ve got the right tools and natural ingredients to make it a place for healing.
With some clever space planning and a few healthful ingredients in your pantry, you can pamper yourself at home.
SCRUBS
Body scrubs are most effective, budget-friendly and soothing when made at home as you will be free from cancer-causing parabens, artificial colours, perfumes or preservatives that go to commercial body products. It's also cost-efficient as the ingredients can be found in your normal grocery list!
Much has been feared about chemicals, dyes and preservatives like paraben that are found in a lot of skin and hair products. Bring the matter in your own hands and make beauty products at home – natural ingredients like jojoba oils and herbs. As you're making them at home, you'll be safe from chemicals that would bioaccumulate in your system.
ANTI-CELLULITE COFFEE SCRUB
Coffee, when applied topically, can shrink the size of cellulite. Caffeine is an active ingredient found in a lot of cellulite creams. The brown sugar in the ingredient list is there to slough off dull, dead skin to clear up your complexion whilst the oils seal in moisture in your skin.
½ cup ground coffee (you can ask coffee houses like Starbucks for used coffee husks)
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup coconut oil
optional:
olive oil, apricot kernel oil, evening primrose oil, jojoba oil
keep in a covered container.
Tip: Dont make a big batch in order to keep your body scrub fresh. As this is free from preservatives, it can also easily biodegrade.
RELAXING SALT SCRUB
Sea salt
Dried lavender pods or 8 drops of lavender essentail oil
Dried pink roses or 10 drops of rose essentail oil
Lemon or orange rind
Jojoba oil (you can also use olive oil, almond oil, apricol kernel, macadamia oil)
Jojoba oil (you can also use olive oil, almond oil, apricol kernel, macadamia oil)
Mix all the ingredients. You can keep your salt scrub in pretty glass jars with some sticker adornments that are easily available in crafting stores. This scrub keeps up to 12 months as the salt keeps the mix bacteria-free!
